I am living in silence, but I am not silent

I was thinking about what my topic will be for my next column in MB.. Since my cochlear implant isn't working so well the last few weeks, it's like I'm deaf again. Haha. And then I decided, my topic will be: about me being deaf.

I was recalling what I felt before, when I learned that there is a possibility I might go deaf & when that happened. I just learned that I have increasing brain tumors (tumors, meaning more than one ;P) and now I'm going deaf.. But my reaction was: OK. That didn't change a thing. Just read my column today. Haha ;P

Anyway, I posted my question/s as my fb status and asked my friends for answer..

Improving.. With flying colors!

I just had 2 hearing tests yesterday (October 16) and I passed both hearing tests.. with flying colors! Dra. Chiong said my hearing level now is so great considering I have tumors in my brain.. It's so amazing!

1st Wednesday of the month/year

It's the 1st Wednesday of the month yesterday.. So we went to Megamall for Fr. Joey Faller's healing mass.. I've been attending it since July 2007.. When I'm free every 1st Wednesday of the month, I make it to a point to attend Fr. Faller's healing mass.. I can't hear what's going on, though sometimes my mom states to me the important words Fr. Faller mentions during his homily.. I can't hear the mass.. But I'm praying with Fr. Faller.. I'm praying with everyone inside the chapel.. and he prays for me, for us.. Join forces ang lahat.. :)

KATRINA (Rambongga) hears

Katrina Rambongga's Cochlear Implant was activated last November 7, 2008 at PGH - EAR UNIT and of course it was a success! Katrina can hear now!

Habang may tenga, may pag-asa

I am Maria Kathrina ‘Kcat’ Yarza. I was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2) in 2004. Complications of the tumor growth in my brain changed my vision and gave me numbness/weakness in my left arm and legs which made me partially disabled. The fluid build-up in my brain and the bilateral acoustic schwannomas gradually affected my hearing. In January 2006, I totally lost my hearing. I was prepared to face the world of silence and accept what was happening to me but I never lost hope that MIRACLES do happen.

will be receiving her Cochlear Implant tomorrow at 7:00 am in Asian Hospital.. Yey! Let us pray for the success of the operation and her speedy recovery.. Of course it'll be a success!

Aided Hearing Test Part Two

Before my CI Mapping, I had another aided hearing test.. The sound is not as loud as the 1st one.. It's more mahinhin but i heard it! And so I PASSED! With flying colors!

I've been busy these past few week preparing for my so-called speech for Disability Week.. I made an AVP so that I don't have to explain my story.. Tapos yung point kagad! Defeating Deafness daw eh.. Wala ng ek-ek na di related.. So, kwento lang.. Though magulo ata ako magsalita.. Haha! I kept on pausing eh kasi number 1 have phlegm.. i felt like coughing pero or parang mapapaos ako bigla.. number 2, coz I keep on hearing myself.. nadidistruct ako sa sarili ko! haha! and number 3, it always cross my mind: "do they understand my voice?" hehe!

after my speech, I asked my mom:
tacK: "naintindihan niyo ba boses ko?"
mami: "oo, tumatawa naman sila"

Tomorrow na naman!

It's the 2nd tuning of my CI tomorrow.. Yey!

Bionic Kcat The Tumor Raider

I woke up at 6:45 this morning.. excited eh! Hehe. I keep on waking up my mom and calling her phone although she's just inches away from me.. finally, she woke up at 7:45am.. and we started preparing at 8.. My appointment is at 11am.. I'm so excited! While I was taking a bath, my mom told me, it's sunny outside.. I was even more happy..

the stitches we're removed last friday, april18.. wala lang.. i just sat there.. parang kinukutuhan or kinakalkal lang balakubak mo.. hehe. let's make it more sosyal.. i'll repeat.. like i'm having a hair treatment in a salon.. pero doctor's clinic talaga.. :P i didn't felt a bit pain.. it's kinda itchy lang.. ayun. tapos. next patient na.. ii'll come back to get my speech processor on may16.. huh?! not may8? yes, you read it right, may 16.. eh kasi my wound should be fully healed before it gets activated to avoid infection.. that means i won't be hearing on my birthday (may13).. but it's ok, i'll celebrate naman on may17 at pgh eh.. ok na rin!
