I am Maria Kathrina ‘Kcat’ Yarza. I was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2) in 2004. Complications of the tumor growth in my brain changed my vision and gave me numbness/weakness in my left arm and legs which made me partially disabled. The fluid build-up in my brain and the bilateral acoustic schwannomas gradually affected my hearing. In January 2006, I totally lost my hearing. I was prepared to face the world of silence and accept what was happening to me but I never lost hope that MIRACLES do happen.

Hello super friendly friends! My hEAR campaign is a success and my cochlear implant is a success.. Thanks for your prayers and support.. *mwah* *mwah* *mwah* I'm hearing now.. Though I still can't understand sounds clearly.. Soon. Soon. But I can already recognize every sound..

Anyway, my fund raising is still ongoing.. MY CI isn't fully paid yet and I'm raising funds for that.. I always find ways, so here's the way.. I'm selling new line of products, of course by me.. :) This is my way of sharing what I can..

The Gift

I have a private blog for 5 years now.. I just feel like writing for myself, to myself.. No need to contain others in my dramas.. Haha. Not that I'm being an introvert, but it's better that way.. Let us pray for Yvonne

Please pray for Yvonne Foong.. I dunno know her personally, I'm just a frequent reader of her blog.. I came across her site when I was researching about NF2 & ABI.. She's an NF2 patient as well and is currently benefiting from ABI who lives in Malaysia.. I really admire her courage and strength.. Before I decided to start my fund raising campaign, I was asking myself: "can I really make it, can I really raise funds?" Though I know I can do it, but still I want to be sure.. Then I saw Yvonne. After reading her previous blog entries, I decided: I can do this. And I did! Anyway, please please please include yvonne in your prayers.. She's struggling right now because her tumors became worse.. She's still strong in spite of.. Basta pray for her ah!

Btw, she's also a writer and she even wrote her own book; sharing her personal story.. I was so moved..

Get Well Soon

My cousin Bene is in the hospital due to Appendicitis.. He was operated last night a few hours after we visited him..He was still in the ER when we came to visit.. Under observation pa.. Then yun nga.. Appendicitis daw.. He was immediately operated.. Hala, no bball.. Tsk.

Ayun, pray for him.. Btw, please pray for Mommycool as well.. She has been sick had palpitation and angina.. Hope she's okay now..

Take this time to pray for whoever sick na din.. para cute.. I'm sick, so cute ako.. Ganon? Haha!

Do you know 'tatay'?

He was found at the Barangay Alabang Plaza grounds just sitting under a tree about two weeks ago. He couldn't talk, maybe caused by the stroke that he suffered before. His right hand is also immobile and he can barely move his right leg. My sister, who is a barangay kagawad, took pity on him and brought him to the OSCA center, but he was rejected there. My sister then asked the help of the local DSWD, who then brought him to the hospital to be checked up. The doctors are recommending him for a CT scan because of a possible blood clot in the brain that is causing his his high blood pressure, but the people from the DSWD said that they don't have enough funds for that. He is now temporarily staying in our house.
I'm appealing to his family or to those who know "tatay". He needs his family now. For any leads regarding the identity or the whereabouts of his family/relatives, you can pm or text me at this number: 0917-4378227. thanks!

Prayer for Tara Santelices

I was blog hopping as usual when I read about Tara Santelices' story..It was horrible and painful.. I felt like I need to take action syempre and do something.. Spread the word and pray for her.. Ewan ko ba how I stumbled upon Tara's story.. I'm not from Ateneo nor Assumption naman.. Eh ganon eh.. basta spread the word! Let's pray for Tara!

Rosaries for Hannah

While I was checking what's new on multiply, I saw Karen's latest link about a sick baby girl, I hurriedly clicked on it.. and of course, re-post it as well..

Hannah is suffering from CCHS or Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome. It is a rare and lifetime condition characterized by one's brain failing to signal the body to breathe. In Hannah's case, her brain fails to do so when she falls asleep. To keep her breathing, we need to hook her to a mechanical ventilator/respirator, which connects to her through a tracheostomy tube found in an opening in her neck.

I'm hyper and I hyperventilate

I passed out this afternoon while I was having my lunch.. My mind was all mixed up and I couldn't control it.. I can't recognize the things that's going on my mind.. I hyperventilated.. again! Then I woke up in my wheelchair in front of the car.. They were supposed to bring me to the hospital.. But I was kinda OK already so we just went back at home instead.. I was SUPER tired and sleepy! I even had a headache while I was sleeping.. My mom woke me up at around 5:30pm since it's already late afternoon and it'll be night time in a few hours.. Right now I'm so sleepy and hungry.. Plus I'm actually too lazy to blog.. But I want to share what happened to me today..

This Filipina has been in Rashid Hospital (Dubai) for almost a year now. She did not have any identifying documents when she was rushed to the hospital. Now, this is her current picture taken at the hospital. If you would care to know, she could not talk yet. Her accident may have harmed her locomotors.


A few days ago, something came up. She was identified as Baikan Musa. Just a hunch, this girl may be from the southern part of the Philippines. Guys, please try to pass this around that it may eventually end up in the inbox of someone who personally knows this girl. Hopefully we could make a difference in her fate.

Please pray for my friends will be taking the PT (Physical Therapy) board exams this weekend.. I'm so glad to be one of their patients during their intern at POC (Philippine Orthopedic Center).. Eventhough I've only have them as a therapists for a month, that's already enough to start a great new friendship with them.. And we continue communicating and being friends up to now.. May first question every time I'll have a new PT intern assigned to me is "May friendster ka? Add mo ko" Haha! Then chika chika.. I'm so grateful that I could read their lips naman.. Our resting always become chikahan time.. Sometimes, my physical therapy session lasts for 2hours.. Just because of the daldalan a.k.a. resting time.. Haha! Things like these makes my 'being sick' more positive.. I remember one of my pt friend and textmate Jen told me before: "sana di ka nalang nagkasakit".. I told her "kung di ako nagkasakit, di tayo nagkakilala" and I'm glad.. I'm not happy that I'm sick but I'm super glad with all the things that's happening because I'm sick.. Daming blessings!

Ayun nga, let's pray for my PT friends and their friends as well and all those who'll take the board exams today.. Thanks!

I've been busy these past few week preparing for my so-called speech for Disability Week.. I made an AVP so that I don't have to explain my story.. Tapos yung point kagad! Defeating Deafness daw eh.. Wala ng ek-ek na di related.. So, kwento lang.. Though magulo ata ako magsalita.. Haha! I kept on pausing eh kasi number 1 have phlegm.. i felt like coughing pero or parang mapapaos ako bigla.. number 2, coz I keep on hearing myself.. nadidistruct ako sa sarili ko! haha! and number 3, it always cross my mind: "do they understand my voice?" hehe!

after my speech, I asked my mom:
tacK: "naintindihan niyo ba boses ko?"
mami: "oo, tumatawa naman sila"

I was interviewed by Ms. Congee Gomez last March (or February? or April? basta months ago).. So, I thought wala na.. Then this morning I woke up to urinate.. I usually go back to sleep after i'm done.. When I was about to close my eyes, my mom approach me and told me that I'm on the newspaper.. I still kinda sleepy so I just said "OK".. Finally, it registered to me: I'm on the newspaper. I have to tell everyone.. Haha! I hurriedly grabbed my cellphone to text all my friends about it.. Tita Yam is my constant chatmate in YM.. We chat almost everyday about anything under the sun and moon.. Actually, she's my godmother too..

I was chatting with her before and after Kariz' surprise debut party last March.. Michelle's debut, Kathreen's debut & Camille's debut.. Those surprise debut the GYA Peeps are doing for our friends.. She shared her memory of her 18th birthday as well.. It's not a nice memorable one.. Unforgettable yet disappointing because her 18th birthday was a less-than-ordinary day.. She said, she felt kinda envious to those who had their debut party.. During that kinda-dramatic chat, I was thinking that if only I could.. Right then and there, I had a very brilliant and funny idea.. I'll make her a video and pretend it's her 18th birthday on her 46th birthday..

Hulk

Talitha, Maro & me went to Greenhills Promenade last Saturday to watch The Incredible Hulk.. I didn't heard it.. Not totally though.. I heard feedback sounds ever.. But, but, but, I also heard real sounds.. As in REAL kinda-CLEAR SOUND! It's non other than the sound effects from the fighting scenes which is a lot.. And I love every sound of it.. There is a scene where the sound from the gamma is quite loud and annoying (?) according to Talitha.. But I enjoyed that sound.. Haha. Plus! Plus! Plus! I love Liv Tyler's lips na.. Because I understand most of her dialogue.. I could read her lips.. Galing!

I've been blog hopping ever, and I read ella's latest blog entry on how we could be an angel to somebody.. So I clicked the link and read Yuki's story.. Hayy.. I really really feel for these sick kids, that's why I started MAY Birthday Project.. I feel more grateful for my life yet seeing them really saddens me.. I want them to get better and enjoy life like I'm enjoying it.. I may be sick, but that doesn't hinder me from loving my life..

UNPhotographed Week

I was out of town last week.. Joke! Away from our home sweet(?) home lang.. Out of Mandaluyong.. Hehe. My family stayed at Manila Pavilion from June 8 to June 13.. It's complimentary for my dad since he's part of the DPWH physical arrangement ek-ek.. Taga-glue ng props.. Hehe. Basta may free room period. Syempre we tagged along with him.. Damay-damay lang.. I missed my pc a lot! But I survived.. I have a good book to read, I'm in a nice room & I always eat sumptuous meals.. Hehe. Swimming pool pa pala! Of course I swam again..

Last Friday & Saturday of May & First Sunday of June

I've been busy and was out of the house these past three days and aylabit! :P

It was the 2nd tuning (mapping) of my CI last Friday (May 30).. I was told by Ms. Kate to observe the sound I'm hearing and be back on Thursday for my 3rd mapping.. I still can't hear speech but I could hear real soft sound in closed spaces already.. Yey! I'll be able to hear you real soon!

Tomorrow na naman!

Birthday ng aking INA

It's my mom's birthday today.. She's the last May Birthday Celebrator in our family.. So, belated Happy Birthday to my dad (May10), Maro (May 17) & Me my lola (May 20).. plus ako pa pala.. :P Belated Happy Birthday din to Ice, my godchild last May13 din..

For sure she'll read my blog, kaya Ma, Happy Birthday!

25 years of life!

Yey! MAY Birthday is over.. We were able to give gifts to Ward 9 (pedia), 11 (pedia), 6 (neurosurgery) & Pedia ICU.. I'm sooooo happy! I felt a lot of contentment again.. When we were done giving out the gifts, I kept on insisting that we have to have a group picture..

Ang saya kasi eh! I always say, I may not be able to smile, but I'm happy.. Super happy! Even though my vision is kinda blurry and it's difficult to see from afar, I can still recognize the smile on their faces and it really really brings so much joy whenever I see it. Every ward was filled with smiling faces, both the giver and the receiver.. Ang saya! Promise.

May = Party Time!

Inspite of the heavy rain, we still celebrated my birthday, our birthday (me, my mom, dad, maro & my lola) and my hearing last Saturday here at our house.. My friends and family are all here.. Some of my NFF didn't make it though.. It's ok. ;) Videoke and food galore! Yipee! Fun! Fun! Fun!

Bionic Kcat The Tumor Raider

I woke up at 6:45 this morning.. excited eh! Hehe. I keep on waking up my mom and calling her phone although she's just inches away from me.. finally, she woke up at 7:45am.. and we started preparing at 8.. My appointment is at 11am.. I'm so excited! While I was taking a bath, my mom told me, it's sunny outside.. I was even more happy..

Tomorrow! Tomorrow!

Yes! My Cochlear Implant will be activated tomorrow at 11am in PGH (PNEI).. I'm so excited! I know you're excited for me as well.. So instead of crossing our fingers, let's put our hands in prayer position.. Pray for me ah! Thanks! Thanks!

I'm also excited for tomorrow-tomorrow.. That's on May17.. Hehe. It's MAY Birthday Project! Yey! We already started packing the gifts.. And the gifts keep on coming.. Dami! Ang saya!
